Theme (Beyond the Line)

Lennie to Mentally Challenged people today

Lennie is one of many main characters from the book Of Mice and Men and he is a mentally challenged male. A lot of people as they read the book say things, make faces, and even laugh. Today in this world when people see someone who is mentally challenged they just stare and laugh at things they ay and do, it is very wrong. I feel bad for Lennie and other mentally challenged people because they don’t do things the way we do, and they always need help.

“He look stupid, he weird, oh my god he talk funny”, that is some of the mean things my classmates and other people say about Lennie and probably about people on the street that are like that. I feel bad that the fact you can see them self-saying hello to everybody and then everybody is laughing at him or her. Yes they are slow but they are human just like us. Lennie works and has a lot of friends that love being around him and looking out for him just like they are today.

Laughing, pointing, trying not to make them see that you’re smiling. These are some of the faces that some of us make when we see somebody that is mentally challenged and it is very wrong of us. They are very friendly and caring. If they are walking down the street you can see them and they will have a conversation with you like know you forever. But they are always sweet and everything but people are always making faces at them and never try to help anybody that is mentally challenged, like George does for Lennie in the book.

Laughing is a major part of what people do to the mentally challenged they see them. Also just like in the book Of Mice and Men they always doubt the slow ones and never give them a chance or anything, then once they walk out of the room everybody laughs. They are laughing because the mentally challenged are not like them, and some people that make fun of them are the one’s that never take nay time out to get to know them. In the book Of Mice and Men Curely wanted to fight Lennie because of how he was acting.

Lennie reminds me a lot like today’s world because they are a lot of mentally challenged people out here in the real world. They are kind and sweet, and yes they symbolize a kid, but they are very emotional and have a big heart. Lennie relates to a lot of things in the real world. They are sweet people and are very kind they hard to laugh at for me because I feel bad for them. They aren’t like us they have a problem and hat we say can hurt them badly.
