Theme (Beyond the Line)

Lennie to Mentally Challenged people today

Lennie is one of many main characters from the book Of Mice and Men and he is a mentally challenged male. A lot of people as they read the book say things, make faces, and even laugh. Today in this world when people see someone who is mentally challenged they just stare and laugh at things they ay and do, it is very wrong. I feel bad for Lennie and other mentally challenged people because they don’t do things the way we do, and they always need help.

“He look stupid, he weird, oh my god he talk funny”, that is some of the mean things my classmates and other people say about Lennie and probably about people on the street that are like that. I feel bad that the fact you can see them self-saying hello to everybody and then everybody is laughing at him or her. Yes they are slow but they are human just like us. Lennie works and has a lot of friends that love being around him and looking out for him just like they are today.

Laughing, pointing, trying not to make them see that you’re smiling. These are some of the faces that some of us make when we see somebody that is mentally challenged and it is very wrong of us. They are very friendly and caring. If they are walking down the street you can see them and they will have a conversation with you like know you forever. But they are always sweet and everything but people are always making faces at them and never try to help anybody that is mentally challenged, like George does for Lennie in the book.

Laughing is a major part of what people do to the mentally challenged they see them. Also just like in the book Of Mice and Men they always doubt the slow ones and never give them a chance or anything, then once they walk out of the room everybody laughs. They are laughing because the mentally challenged are not like them, and some people that make fun of them are the one’s that never take nay time out to get to know them. In the book Of Mice and Men Curely wanted to fight Lennie because of how he was acting.

Lennie reminds me a lot like today’s world because they are a lot of mentally challenged people out here in the real world. They are kind and sweet, and yes they symbolize a kid, but they are very emotional and have a big heart. Lennie relates to a lot of things in the real world. They are sweet people and are very kind they hard to laugh at for me because I feel bad for them. They aren’t like us they have a problem and hat we say can hurt them badly.

Symbols (Between the Line)

Curely’s wife to all the women in todays world…

Curely’s wife, no name, good looking and also taken to be a “ flirt”. This woman to me in the book represents every woman in today’s world for all of those reason’s. She has no name in the book for a reason, it isn’t because she is not one of the main characters but it is because she holds her own ground like a strong women. She is a very good looking women for how they described her, but knows how to handle being good looking. Also she is known to be a “ flirt” because of how she acts but most of women to act like that to be friendly. She represents every woman, from when the book was written until now. Strong women, and never says no.

Setting (between the line)

Why does the whole book take place in a ranch?

I think that the book Of Mice and Men take place in a ranch is for a couple of reasons. One, that so they can show you Lennie’s child side, second to show you how opened minded they were and third, to make you see the beauty behind them. It showed you Lennie’s child side by making him play with puppies and all. Also to show how opened mind George and Lennie are by them wanting to go buy a farm. Last but not least to make you see the beauty they have in them self’s by being nice and caring at times. But the setting of this book did take place on a ranch but it showed you all of these things.

Conflict (between the lines)

Why did Curly want to fight Lennie?

Of Mice and Men Curley was a big shot, a fighter, and also a though guy. They are all of the reason’s why Curley wants to fight Lennie. Curley thought he was a big shot until Lennie came into town and Curley was picking on Lennie, then Lennie broke Curley’s hand. Curley is a fighter wanted to go fight Slim for something that wasn’t even anything. Last but not least Curley was though guy because he was picking on Lennie for who he was. Curely is just a mean person at heart and I think you can see that now, so that is my reason why he wanted to fight Lennie.

Motifs (between the line)

Lennie Angle or Devil ??

Lennie has a thing to always make something happen when it wasn’t. First, the dead mice, second the dead puppy, and third he killed Curley’s wife. Lennie and George were drinking the dirty water when George realized what Lennie had. Secondly Lennie was in the barn playing with the puppies and then all of a sudden he did something to the dog, once again something dead. Lastly, Lennie was in the barn with Curley’s wife and he was playing with her hair and then he snapped her neck. So do you think this is a reason this is happening or because Lennie doesn’t know when to stop? That is up to you but to me Lennie don’t know when to stop.

Where you been Ms. Martin ?

She her walking down the hallway, smiling, saying hello, but once you step into Ms. Martin’s office, it is a total different ballgame.

Ms. Martin is the nurse here at Constitution High School (Con High) for the past three years. She has dealt with many kids being sick and coming to school, getting sick in school, and everything else you can imagine. But there are something’s that we as students don’t really like.

Ms. Martin is a very good nurse here at Constitution High. She looks after alot of sick kids here. She also is a very good person to talk too. She is very caring the boys and girls here but there is a side of her that alot of students get. Ms. Martin is a very kind woman that works here, one of many.

One usually depending on a school nurse when they are sick with a stomach aces, headaches, and fever’s, Ms Martin is suppose to do something for these things, and care to her students but is she really there, that’s our question.

There are things that we feel as if they are wrong of her to do. Arrogance, “ feels like a announce when I go to her” Labriah Morgan 10th grader. Looks, “ Always gives this look like she don’t want to see us or something” Brandon Roman 10th grader. Caring, “ When I go to her I feel like she really don’t care” Jessie Tepoz gradating 2011.

Arrogance is one of the main parts of Ms. Martin. Many kids that I have spoken with have felt the same way. But also some kids say that a couple of times they have went to her she was very kind, but also that she must have been having a good day because she is never that nice, some kids said. “ When I went to her and I was getting sick she wouldn’t send me home she kept me in school, and she was very ignorant, made me feel like she didn’t even care” Labriah Morgan 10th grader.

Looks, well there is a lot to say about the looks that Ms. Martin gives to her sick students when they go to her to get care. During the past week I have tried to interview Ms. Martin several of times and every time I have went to her she had said “ I am to busy come back tomorrow”. But she gave me this look as to where she didn’t want to be bothered. “ When I went I to her, she made me full out a paper, took my temperature, and then sent me back to class with a 99.8 fever”. Jessie Tepoz gradating 2011.

Caring. Ms. Martin makes the kids at Con High feel as if she doesn’t care if they are really sick or not. “ I mean I don’t know if she just don’t like me or if that is just how she is” Brandon Roman 10th grader. She makes all of the kids at Con High feel this way. Even when I went to her for the interview she didn’t even care what my article is about or anything.

So Ms. Martin is the nurse here at Con High but is she really taking care of her students here? Some kids feel as if she is very mean and ignorant and I am sure that she is a very nice person. But every time you go to her she is in a bad mood. So how would you take that? Yes she has her bad days, but all and all she is a very nice and kind woman that is here for the students durning the week. She migiht have her bad days, alot of work on her desk, alot of students to take care of and that depend on her. But the qestion is one that I have and I would have asked her in the interview is, why sometimes when students come to you are you mean?

Ms. Martin, kind, sweet, caring. But also at times mean. But everyone here at Con High is very respecting of her, for what she has to deal with here from the students that are cocky.

Maturing As A Person

Short sleeve shorts, shorts, skirts, tanktops, part of my life I reside in right now. This meatford issomething that I use to desribe the steps of matureity. Spring in-mature, Summer mature, Fall getiing older, Wintercoming to the end of our lifes. Summer, time of my life, growing in ways that I didn't see for me a couple of monthsago. Changes, getting older, coming home lights out, open my house door, " Surprise Happy 15th Birthday." Responsibilty, chours, jobs, " Mom I'm leaving for work." Maturiety, relizing that their not right choices, hanging with the wrong crowd, I need new frineds, no more pushing and shoving thats all done.

I noticed steeping over to summer, when the changes in my life strated to come. Hearing my mother talk late at night to my step father, getting older, also getting my "friend." I remember in the girls bathroom, notcing what Ihad there, and then running to the nurse, " Mom can you come get me from school?" mother asked "why?" " I got myfriend." My mom came and got me and on the whole way home she was saying how her little girl, now maturing into a woman. Deffentaily one of the days that i noticed changes were coming in my life. Another change in my life, my Conformation. Ok I might have lost you, cathlic's have to go through this so that when they go to get marryed theycan get marryed in a calhic church. On May 17th 2006, was my day of becomeing a young woman. Walking down that islemade me relize that this, another major moment in my life. Looking out into the chruch, seeing my mother, there smilling, lipping to me "You look Beatiful."

Responsibility plays a major roll in my life. Helping, cour's, job's, school, making my mother and everyoneelse around me proud. Getting good gradesn school, so that I can take my test's and report cards home for my mother and my grandmother to say "I am so proud of you Adriannah, you really worked hard." Cleaning the house and my roomwithout anybody asking me. When i was still in the spring part of my life, my mother use to have to ask me to do things or yell at me when I didn't do them," Why didn't you clean your room you were home all day?" I just do allthem now. Helping cook dinner, helping my grandmother go to stores, things like that. All this strated when I found out that my mother got sick last year. Febuary of last year around this time, my mother went to Altantic City for the night with my step father. The nest day they came home and my mother was having really bad chest pain's. We rushed her to the hospital. Doctor's told us that she had took a slient heart attack, and also that they had found a tumor, " Mom I am here for you", crying worring about what might happen next. That's when I strated to cook, having to see my mother cook when she was sick, I didn't like " Mom let me help please."

Mature, yes mature, growing earned trust from my mother. Now I can go out with friends and not have her question me. Go hangout over my bestfriend's or my boyfriend's house, relax watch T.V. and not have my phone ring and my mother ask " What are you doing?" Converstation's with my mother and her crying on my shoulder's about she don't know what to do for money. This tie's into the story Marigolds that we have read in class. The stroy Marigoldsauthor Eugena Collier, Lizbeth lsiten's through the walls hearing her father cry about he don't know what to do.Then Lizbeth goes to Mrs. Lottie's graden and tour everything apart, and then relizing that moment, in her life, she had to cross over and become mature. I conect with Lizbeth on that because of times my mother was crying on my shoulders. When that day came I relizied that I need to cross over from Spring to Summer, to be there for mymy mother/bestfriend.

Summer time is great, full of opportonites. Now that you know the meatford what season are you in? Are you stuck between two? I'm sure not, now my mother can sit me down and have a heart to heart conversation, and me not joke around about anything. She can also confinde in me more to tell me things " I don't know where I am gonna get the money for that lawyer sweetheart." " I'll help mom " Numerous amount of moment's I have that I remember what really matured me and also made me, me. Joanna's daughter, a person with tatoo's, pericing's, andalso a big heart. The day that I crossed over from Spring to Summer, the best day of my life. Made changes in my life, and I enevr want to look back.

" If there be Sorrow " By Mari Evans

“ If there be Sorrow “ what does that title say to you? It says numerous things don’t it. “If there be Sorrow’’ author Mari Evans has numerous amount of different things that really stand out and make the reader feel something. Rhythms, great, like listening to a song. The sorrow in this poem make’s the reader feel very upset. Title, so interesting that it drags the reader right into it to read.
I really like this poem for the vocab and rhythm. Firstly, the vocab really uses great words, most of them from a dictionary but mainly they express very easy and understanding words for everybody. Words in the poem set a mysterious picture and really leaving one questioning what they mean, and what they want they want the reader to get out of the words. “ For things undone, unattained.” Rhythm really goes with the vocab for the fact that the rhythm is enjoyable. Reputation isn’t annoying, but very understanding. Rhythm is relaxing, “ to these add one; love withheld, restrained,”
The sorrow and life story told through this very small poem. Sorrow amazing and very interesting to ones mind. Sorrow once again focusing on just as life is happening. “ If there be sorrow let it be.” In the life situation it is like being afraid of things “ that are undone or undreamed.” Just think about that mean to the reader? To the reader it means a lot.
Something that stood out to the readers the most that drags them right into, the title. Mari Evans well told and pretty much explained the poem just by the title in itself. “ If there be sorrow” the title telling everybody something. The title starts off the poem, really sets off a great tone for everything. What the author is trying to tell the readers, don’t be afraid of sorrow.
So what do you think? “ If there be sorrow”, what does this poem mean to you now? For numerous reason those things mean a lot. “ If there be sorrow” has numerous things to the reader also to the author, because of the fact that people worry like when kids don’t clean there room when there parents tell them to. Frighten of what will happen if it doesn’t get done, they might yell at the kid for not doing it. Mari Evans says in the poem “ to these add one; love withheld”, never be afraid of love just go with it and it will take you there.
